“Yes, I do regret something in my life, and it was a little bit adventurous, and we didn’t do it because we were inexperienced.
My husband and I visited the Grand Canyon in Nevada, and we had planned to walk down into the bottom of the canyon, and stay for a night, and then walk back up, and when we got there, it was in the middle of February, and it was wintertime in America, and it was cloudy and whiteout and snowy, and we hadn’t tramped in America before, and we hummed and hawed all day long, trying to decide whether to do this tramp, down into the Grand Canyon, and in the end, we heard so many conflicting reports about weather, and tramping conditions, we decided not to do it, and to this day we still regret it. We still regret that we didn’t just jump at the chance, and go for that tramp down into the bottom of the canyon. Funny regret, but that’s one of them.
I think at some stage you just have to get over the fact that it didn’t happen, and even though it’s a sad moment when you finally think, oh my gosh it didn’t work out, you’ve actually got to move on from that. You can’t keep dwelling on it forever, and I think that’s regrets in a lot of things, like relationships that don’t work out. At some stage, you just have to grow through it, jump the hurdle and keep going, and find something new and better.
We have been for years and years, trampers. We’ve done a lot of the great walks in New Zealand, but unfortunately, over the last three or four years, our knees have become arthritic, and it’s something that we just can’t do anymore, those tramps around New Zealand or overseas. So, it’s time to take up a new adventure, which may just be four-wheel driving, which means that we don’t have to walk anywhere because it hurts too much.
Both my husband and I are West Aucklanders, born and bred, Swanson and we moved a whole seven kilometres away to Central Henderson, and I have been a mum for 20 years at home, with our five children, who are now all adults, and I owned a business in Henderson, a wedding business in Henderson for 14 years after our youngest child went to high school. One of the most important things to both Paul and I are our children and our grandchildren, now. They all live very close to us, all within 10 kilometres of our home, and they like being around us, and we love being around them just as much.”
