Vicki | Devonport
“I’m Vicki, and I live in Devonport. My son’s choice of high school, where he’s going to go next year, and how to do the best by him, at the moment. That’s probably keeping me awake most nights.
So he’s 13 and at intermediate school, and we’ve got the big choice of where he goes next year, and what’s going to make the most difference for him. He’s a really bright boy, really sporty, and we just want to give him the best opportunity, and I just worry about whether the choice we make is going to make a difference to that.
I grew up in Wellington and moved to Auckland post-university. I spent my university days in Hamilton at the Waikato University and had children in my 30s. I’ve got three children. They’re probably my biggest, well, they’re what my life is about, really. I’ve just started working after 13 years at home with them, and to me, that was just like a gift to be able to be at home and be there every day, and I’m still there every day with them. I think my family is the most important thing in my life; it’s probably what gives me the most joy and the most worry as well.
I do yoga every week. I do as many sessions as I can fit in, and apart from that, I have a dog, and I walk. I walk here every day, and that’s probably my outlet. I try and just grab little bits of time to myself, where I can. A lot of the days I think I could do more.”
