“I’m a single lady who has lived on my own for quite some time, and I think it can be quite expensive living in Auckland, so sometimes you do spend a lot time staying home, watching TV, Netflix, especially in the winter months.
I’m not sure if I feel that lonely, but I go to live bands, catch up with girlfriends, go to the odd function that comes up, pop up on Facebook now and again, where you can go and join in with, a live band or a movie or a theatre, or something like that.
I think it’s [loneliness] very real. Needs to be addressed. The census comes out and maybe that should be involved in it. Maybe more clubs or more functions for single people, rather than single people that are requiring dates. They don’t necessarily want to do that; they want to do more, just be around other people of the same kind, and find out what their interests are, whether it be tramping clubs, or walking or whatever, and they’re all in together, not necessarily looking for a date.”
