Fergus | Mt Northcote
“So I’m Fergus, and I call Northcote home. What’s keeping me up at night? So, I guess currently me and my partner are looking to buy an apartment, potentially a KiwiBuild apartment, so that’s a lot of stress.
We’re working out if that’s the right financial decision for us, and how we can afford that. Aside from that though, not a whole lot. I think that we have quite a nice community that we live in. We live in a flat of seven people, and so we’ve got a lot of support from our friends. We like the community we live in here. On a global scale, probably a little bit anxious about the changing climate and political changes around the world, but aside from that, pretty happy.
So I grew up here in Auckland. I’m from the North Shore since birth. Grew up by Browns Bay, and now over in Northcote, so not much of a jump.
So what I value in life? I guess above everything else I value connection with my family and my friends and the people in my life. I try to be focussed mostly on my partner and my friends, and not getting too caught up in money, work and stress, and those kinds of things.
I mean I get stressed and concerned, but I guess for me, it’s trying to understand what my signs are that I’m getting too stressed about something. If I’m starting to take it out on other people, or if it’s keeping me up at night, I sort of try to understand what those signals are, and then make sure I get time with my friends, my family and they help keep me grounded. I let them give me feedback if I’m getting a little bit too stressed, and aside from that, meditation I think is a super helpful practice for stress.”
