Bernard | Māngere Bridge
“My name is Bernard. I live in Māngere Bridge. Wow, nothing keeps me up at night. I sleep like a log.
Seriously. What keeps me up at night? That’s such a loaded question. There’s eight million things I can think of, but nothing that keeps me up awake at night. Eight million things are on my mind; one being global population.
I’m retired. I’m content, retired, happy, and I believe stable. What can I say? Nothing keeps me up at night.
I grew up in Auckland, but I lived for 40 years out of the country. So, I didn’t return to New Zealand till 2014, so it was very foreign to me when I came back because things had changed so much in the 40 years I was away. 40 plus years, it had changed so much. I didn’t recognise the country when I came back.
What do I value in life? Living. I really enjoy life. I enjoy living. I think that’s what I value life, is the joy of life. I don’t want to get into a long-convoluted thing, but I’m a writer, and so I spend most of my time doing research, and the more I do research the more I enjoy life. There’s so many things that interest me, from history to our current circumstances. So, I’m continually doing research and writing, and that keeps me intrigued and interested.”
