Who or what brings light into your life?

Tahlee | Tauranga

Tahlee reflects on the challenges of becoming a single mum and settling into a new rhythm with her kids.

“I’m always laughing with my kids.

They’re so funny; they’re six and four and they’re at that funny age. They sort of depict the day. They say what’s up and how they’re feeling about things. We always have little hui where we can just be together. Laugh, do things, go for walks, hang out.

Becoming a single mum is really hard. Your life changes quite quick. But you’ve also got to keep everything steady for your kids. So it’s a lot.

It’s a lot to go through. It’s a lot of pressure. You’re just trying to get your own stuff together, but you’re also trying to be very mindful of the kids and trying to keep their routine as normal as possible. It’s really hard.

It’s hectic at the start because you’ve had this new way of life just handed to you. You’ve got to somehow find this new version of yourself, show up for your kids, work full-time, hang out with your friends. It’s definitely rough, but after all of that, when you do look at your kids, you’re just like, ‘you’re going to be all good.’

I actually feel really epic and positive, and I feel like we’re in such a good buzz and momentum – probably because I’ve relaxed heaps and you just somehow find your new rhythm.”
