Patosina | Panmure
“My name is Patosina and I’m living here in the Tāmaki community, living in Panmure. About myself? First of all, I have to thank the Lord, because I’ve been living for all these years, and I really appreciate the life that I’ve got.
So, I’m here today because we’re having our walking group, and we just had our Zumba class. Everything like that’s just to occupy the time and makes you fit and feel happy. So, I’m very proud of myself, I’ve got children, great-grandchild as well. So, I have to share my story with lots of women nowadays because I’m older, much older than other women, but I can see they hardly stand up, hardly walk. I don’t know, but I think they don’t look after themselves. The main thing and my first priority is my health. That’s my first priority because I want to live a little bit longer for my children.
I joined this group, Walking Samoans because we need to get healthy and encourage those who are at home to come and join because if you come through to this stage of the age, you only stay home, but you don’t have to stay home. Come and join the club. Join the group. Lots of old people they need to come out of their comfort zone, because joining and chatting with everyone, it gives you lots of happiness.
I was born in Samoa and I came here in 1986 and then because all my children and my grandchildren are all living in New Zealand, that’s why I want to stay here. I’ve got nine of us. No-one has passed away. Four brothers and four sisters. I’m in the middle. So, I’m really happy, I just came back three weeks ago from Samoa. We had our family reunion, and everyone was in Samoa. I don’t have a really good education, but you know, to me I am educated in the love of the Lord. I think that’s the main thing for me. I have to share it with my children and my family. Thank you.”
