“I was doing the old kapa haka, and I couldn’t pick up how to sing very well, but I stuck at it, and then I’m sort of picking it up. So, the old kapa haka. Stuck at it. Stay at it. I’m still learning the songs. I just don’t know them off by heart yet, but I will.
I’m actually born and bred in Temuka, out the way, Temuka/Timaru, it’s the same thing pretty much.
I’ve got two kids, a boy and a girl, aged eight and nine, and having long moved into town. Only about a year and a half ago to Timaru. We’re enjoying it, though. It’s an alright place to live.
I like to go to kapa haka, and represent my culture just by singing. Singing in Māori. Learning Māori, too. I like to learn a bit of Māori every now and then, as well. I sort of speak it, but still working on it. Still working on it.”
