“I was looking after my two year old granddaughter yesterday. She lives in Wellington so I don’t often see her, and so, you know, it was a challenge; especially because she didn’t want to sleep.
Oh it’s beautiful, but it was a challenge just to make sure she had her vegetables. I just went with the flow, showed her a few different things; a chicken shed, so she played with that for ages. She was in a cage for awhile. I read to her. It’s just not something I’m used to lately since she lives so far away, but I’ve got her again tomorrow. I might go and get some nice jelly to make.
I overcame it, because you have to. My granddaughter was in town because her great-grandmother passed over at the beautiful age of 96, and so they’ve all come up and got together, the whānau, and are generally just having a catch-up. People are so busy that they don’t get to catch up as much as they should. I believe in catching up. So you know, we meet other than at funerals and weddings, but other whānaus are a bit more clicky.
I just had surgery and it didn’t go well. So they just gave me a nice big scar from there to there. I’m getting back on my feet after that, looking for a job, but I’m still not AOK. So that was a challenge just feeling quite sick after surgery. It takes it out of you. Apparently protein’s very good for healing, and I’m generally a happy person anyway. So I’ve got the gifts. You’ve just go to do what you’ve got to do. You know? You can’t sort of get into bed and put a sheet over your head.”
