“I’m just single with children. Yeah, that’s the challenge.
You bring them up the right way. Some of them are good, they listen. Some of them, no they don’t listen. So, that’s life. I feel safe. I believe it’s a safe place to be in Ōtara. I listen to other people say it’s not a safe place, but I don’t believe that. I believe Ōtara is a safe place.
The challenge is keeping the place clean, tidy, and making people happy and feel comfortable around the township, and make them feel welcome when they come to Ōtara. That’s the main thing.
Something I’ve learnt from way back is that you’ve got to work with the community and give something back, because I stay in Ōtara all I can think about is helping people. Knowing people is the main thing and working with people, inside the community.
I grew up in the islands and in ’74 I moved here. I was born in the island, and grew up there until I was nine. That’s all I know. Yeah, from Cook Island to here. I grew up here mostly. Yeah, I miss the islands.”
