“I was coming into town, and I saw my bus, and then I was like, what the? There were more buses around, and I learned they were from Queenstown. Second-hand from Queenstown, and so I was like, I have to jump on these, and go for a ride, and then I was like, gee whizz, they’re comfortable!
And so I’ve been tracking down a couple of buses for the last few days to try and get a ride on them, and then, what do you know? Then, a friend of mine who’s driving one of them comes and says, I’ll give you a ride on one of them. So, that’s what I’ve been trying to do. Track them down and go for a ride, every single day, but I keep going somewhere else. Why did it make me feel proud? Because I’m a bit of a transport buff. Transport people like myself like the arrival of new busses. Well, mainly me. Means I can go and get a ride on them, and with them being free these days, you can go here, there and anywhere. That’s one moment that makes me feel proud, I can tell you that much.
When I was little, I said to my family, I want to become a bus driver when I’m older. So, that’s what fuelled my passion for transport, buses, aircraft, taxis, airports, trains, the like. So that’s what fuelled my passion for transport, and I’ve liked transport ever since I was little. I might be driving something. Who knows, but with the way this virus is going around, you might not get jobs yet. You might not get much, but who knows what’s going to happen? I might have a camera in my hands, taking pictures, becoming a photographer of buses, and transport. Going around and taking pictures of everything I see. It’s whatever goes, I suppose. In the future, I will probably become a photographer. Take photos of everything and all this sort of thing, like transport.
I grew up in Dunedin. Then I moved, and then I’ve been back in Dunedin since 2011. I was born and bred in Dunedin. Then, I moved up the hill to the North Island and then I came back down for a holiday, which turned out to be for good. I don’t study. I’m not a student. I just go around and look at transport and go to the public library and such.”
