Armony | Glen Innes
“My name is Armony, and I call Māngere Bridge my home, in Auckland. So this one time I was really depressed, can we talk about that?
And my best friend; well I was just about to commit suicide and she was down in Christchurch, and she flew up that same day and came to get me from Māngere Mountain. Pretty much saved my life.
I was in an abusive relationship, and my partner at that time, he gave me a hiding, and it was at my mum’s house, and after he gave me a hiding, my mum came in and also gave me a hiding, because I was trying to fight back. So, I just left, because, at the same time, me and my sister were going through a lot of shit, and it was really heart-breaking. I’d just had my baby, so I was pretty much suffering from postnatal depression, and then my best friend left, and she came back that same day, and came and saved my life. It’s amazing. If I didn’t have her, then I wouldn’t be here right now. So, I give it up to her. Her name is Kristen Hilbert, anyway, she’s amazing. That’s my best friend.
I value my daughter in life. She’s my everything. I grew up in South Auckland, and I went to Māngere College. I nearly finished, and then after school, I started working just up the road here. Then I fell pregnant, and I moved out to GI because Māngere is not a safe place for me. I know too many people. People know too much about me, and it’s just not my environment to be around. That’s why I came out here, for a better life for my daughter.
I’m alive, guys. It is positive to be alive.”
