Reagan | Manurewa
“Hi, my name’s Regan and home to me is Manurewa. Sense of accomplishment? So recently I’ve made it into the New Zealand Under-18s hockey team, and it was a real accomplishment for me, showing that my hard work has finally paid off, and all those long trainings and long hours have finally come together.
It means quite a lot to me. It’s such an accomplishment, because I guess it’s been a dream of mine and, just the amount of work I’d say I’ve put in, and the support and guidance I’ve also had from coaches, and my family. It’s a shared accomplishment for myself and my family and my coaches, and all those that have supported me, and guided me to where I am today because I don’t think I’d be there without them.
I grew up in South Auckland. I went to Alfriston Primary, and then I moved to Alfriston College, and I’ve always kind of lived around in South Auckland, and in terms of hockey, I started off playing football, and one day during my school competition, I got asked whether I want to trial out for a hockey team, and from there I got into that team and I’ve just been playing hockey ever since. I’ve just been moving up the ranks, to I guess where I am today, just playing representative for Auckland and for New Zealand.
Sport has really helped, because it’s also taught me hard work can really get you places, and just staying focussed and having an end goal in life can get you past those tough times. I guess, in terms of helping me through tough times like sometimes if I’ve had a tough day, or something’s going on within my family, it’s good, because I’m able to take my mind off of what’s going on for a little bit, and just move to a different headspace, where I’m just able to focus. From there, maybe I can regain my thoughts and then go back into the situation feeling a lot better.”
