Kanistarani | Mt Wellington
“I’m Kanistarani and I live in Mt Wellington. I’m from Sri Lanka. In my country, too much problem, I’m not happy so I came to New Zealand, so many happy and nice people, and they’re good people.
My language is Tamil, we are talking in our country, only Tamil. Here, I came and learn English also, and the more the friends I have.
I was born in Sri Lanka. After I made it, I came to New Zealand, my husband and I bonded here. Because my husband was living in New Zealand before, that’s why I came here after we got married. My son, I only have one son. Before I work in a Mexican restaurant. After that, I have a baby and then stop the job.
The future? Yes, that’s now my husband only working. After that, I had my son after three years, and then start my job, and then I help some people with the Government because of the cancer problem. I pay money every month, $25. That’s help only.
I help with cancer patients. I am proud that I came to New Zealand. I’m proud because I can bring my future and my family here also. When we are in Sri Lanka, like very poor people. I came after that. We are helped by working people, and I helped my family also. That’s what I want to proud of in New Zealand, my life.
I was born in Sri Lanka, my father only working. I’m a very poor family. Very, very poor family. Only my father look after all the kids. My mum not working. After that, I did some low study in Sri Lanka, I go to school, and then I have three sisters, four brothers, a big family, and a happy family. Same after I came to New Zealand, I have more friends and so I’m happy in New Zealand. Happy life.”
