Dawa | Panmure

“My name is Dawa and I live in Panmure, and that is where I call home. The thing that made me very proud that I feel that I achieved is because since I’ve come to New Zealand, I have given birth to three beautiful children, and I have a satisfying job, and a  very supportive husband, and then not long ago we bought our first home, and I feel like I’ve achieved quite a lot since I came to New Zealand.

Originally, I’m Tibetan, and all the Tibetan go to India as a refugee. So, I was born and raised, and then I came to New Zealand around the year 2011 to do further study. So my families are still in Tibet, and half of the families are in Nepal, and half of my siblings are in India.

When I was doing my nursing in India, through my senior colleague I found out that they were saying that New Zealand is a really nice place to work, because normally when you become a nurse in India, you always try to look to go abroad, which is like everywhere else, just to improve your living standard, and to have a better life. So, I chose New Zealand just because my other two friends were here and they were saying that it’s really nice country to live. So, that’s how I chose New Zealand, and I came here in 2011, and I really enjoy it because it is an individual experience, because back home in India, I myself, didn’t have a good life there. The place where I lived, the work I do, I couldn’t support my family enough, but after coming to New Zealand and working as a nurse I can support my family and my extended families.

I’m very excited about the future, because every day is so different, and at the moment we have three little kids, and then we’re thinking about when they are becoming teenagers, and New Zealand have very good universities, so we felt sure that they will have a good education here in the future.”
