“I can’t remember the last time I connected to a friendship level, but apart from that, it’s lots, meeting lots of new people on the street, and just saying, hi and yeah, I guess that would be connecting with people.
Yeah, I guess the last time I connected with someone wasn’t big or anything but I was getting a sandwich at a shop, and this guy came by and he was looking really thin. So I bought him a sandwich as well. I just found out that he was studying, and that he’s come to New Zealand not too long ago, and yeah, was just really enjoying New Zealand and everything, but just didn’t really have the means to just buy a sandwich, which was, yeah you just wouldn’t experience that, unless you actually went out there and spoke to someone.
I think it’s really important to connect with new people because you learn new experiences that you wouldn’t learn otherwise. Like, you learn about different cultures. You learn about different hardships that people have gone through, and you experience all of this through connecting with them.
I was born in Napier. I lived there for about 18 years, before I went off and studied engineering in Palmerston North, and graduated after four years of study, and went, came here to Auckland to study PhD. The reason why I’m living all the way in South Auckland is because my partner works in South Auckland, and I can work at home. So yeah, I guess that’s what, why I’m here doing what I’m doing.”
