“I converse with strange people all the time, new people all the time. Just yesterday, talked to a guy. He was telling me about, he was getting his tattoo finished and stuff, next door. Yeah, didn’t know him from a bar of soap.
Well, I got a new workmate not too long ago. He was a new person at that time, and we got along good, so yeah. Happy to be working for the last seven years at Rogers, so yeah.
I’m a mechanic, so I’m in the workshop, but they’re sales roles, and they’re absolutely, that’s their job is to get along with new people, befriend them. Oh, it just makes everyone feel human, I guess, everyone feel like they’re not alone. What do they say? A smile’s contagious. Smile at someone, and they’ll pass it on. Treat others how you want to be treated. Goes around comes around, and all that. So yeah I, I definitely think it’s important.
I was born in Auckland, grew up out West Auckland, went to school out West and over the North Shore. I’ve been on the Shore since leaving school. Been in lots of trouble in the past, lots of drama, family basically is what helped me through it. Just all sorts of scallywag behaviour, I guess, couple of ankle bracelets and whatnot, yeah.
I don’t regret any of it. You only live once, so it made me who I am. I don’t know. Just be honest. Be honest with yourself. Don’t try to be someone else. Don’t try to live up to someone else’s standards. Friend and family are what’s important when it counts, and be good to everybody. Treat others how you want to be treated.”
