Michelle | Ōtautahi

This year Michelle’s son moved to the US to study at college. It’s the beginning of a new chapter for her whānau.

“I remember being that age and just wanting to be adventurous and head out beyond Aotearoa and have a look and he’s doing that.

I’m pretty good. I’m in a really easy-going, happy spot in life at the moment. The kids are moving on. My son is currently studying in America, which has been a big shift this year. A big change. I think that’s probably been a big part of my husband’s and my journey this year – realising that this chapter does come to an end. Although we’re really excited for my son to be having his new journey in America, it’s still a big adjustment.

I was fortunate to be able to go over and set him up there. And I think that was really good for me because it relaxed me into knowing that this is a good event for him. Although it’s four years, I know there’s a journey, and we’re on that journey. The next chapter will come.

I think it’ll be harder once Sasha, my youngest, goes because then there’ll be no one at home.”
