What gives you hope?

Yuko | Whāingaroa

Yuko and her family have set new roots in Whāingaroa, Raglan, where it now feels like home.

“I left my home 15 years ago and this [Whāingaroa/Raglan] is my home now.

I have two daughters and one son, and my husband; we have five in my family. It really feels like home. When we came here, I didn’t feel like we had roots here. But it’s different now. Our roots are under this ground. I feel that now.

There are five in my family. Four of us have permanent residency, but my son cannot have a permanent resident’s visa yet. So my hope, my dream is for all three of my children to have a good family in this town and live together and work together.

But we do have a little bit of worry because my son doesn’t have a place to live. It’s the biggest concern to me. Our family wants to see each other all the time. I think families shouldn’t live away. I’m happy to be here, but the only heavy thing in my heart is because of my son. When that problem is solved, we will be really happy.”
