What do you hope to achieve this year?

Tracy is committed to embracing new experiences this year, with the support of friends and whānau behind her.

“Last year was a difficult year. We lost two very good friends. I lost a very dear friend, she was only 37, to cancer. And then her father passed away recently too. We’d been palliative caring for both of them, so it was a tough year.

But we’re looking forward to a good year this year – a much better one. It’s taught me a lot about family and friends. I keep mentioning that but that’s quite important for me. It’s taught me to get out there and go do it.

Go experience new things. Go push the boundary. Go try something new. Go visit people. Go exploring. Don’t just sit in that bubble and not challenge yourself. Get out there and have a go.

The good thing about being in a small town like this [Hokitika] is that everybody knows everybody. And you always get that support in situations like we had this year. Everyone wraps their arms around you in a community like this.

So it’s been really good for that and we’ve come out the other side and we’ve got a lot of plans for this year. And you keep moving forward and enjoy every day that you have with family and friends and with life.”
