“I have fun every week going to bowls, which I’m going to at 12 o’clock. I play indoor bowls. I belong to the Salvation Army church, and I go there to New Lynn on a Wednesday, and we have a program called Home League, and we have speakers and we talk about all different topics. So I enjoy that.
I’m always helping my son out and his family, because they struggle on what they get, and I help them out with food and friendship, and get them through their troubles.
Without fun we don’t succeed and we need fun to get us through everyday life. It’s very important having the friends from the bowling club, because when I’m feeling down and things are going wrong with me, they’re there to prop me up and help me, and it’s a good friendship, plus I go to a church called the Greenlane Christian Fellowship. I’m going there tomorrow. We play bowls there on a Saturday, and that’s twice a month.
Sometimes I’m good, sometimes I’m not. You have off days. Yeah, they come up, friends have come around home, had prayers with me, helped lift me up and if I had financial problems, they help me out, and then when I get back on my feet I pay them back, and that’s life.”
