“Woman of influence in my life would be my mum. She’s the one who has given me the way I am living right now, she has given me everything, from birth to now she has taken care of me until I grew up, and she has given me culture and everything – how to respect others, and do good things. So, yeah she’s my inspiration, and influence, she’s the main lady in my life.
Myself I was born in India, and brought up in India, yeah. I came to New Zealand when I was 22, around 11 years now, and I studied as a chef in India. I came here and I did my extra course here, as a hospitality management, and I become a chef here. I started as a kitchen hand washing dishes in one of the hotels and restaurants down in Auckland. Then slowly I went in and to a couple of other hotels, and after five or six years in New Zealand I’ve become a head chef at one of the hotels, and after being a head chef and for three years, then I started my own business, came back to Auckland. So right now I’m running my own restaurant. It’s a small gourmet burger place here. That’s it, yeah. I’m really good now.
Value in life; before yourself, help others and just do good to others, and help each other, that’s the thing.
There is a saying that, behind every successful man there’s a woman, so I totally believe that. That’s my mum, she would be my main lady. And there is now my wife, so my wife is also one of the important ladies in my life. She did support me when I was down, when business is not well, and I’m bit hard, you know. So she did support me well, yeah.”
