Who has changed your life?

King Home Boy | Pōneke

King Home Boy (Newtown) is a six time New Zealand beatboxing champion and a busking icon of Cuba Street. But it might never have happened without the door opened by his friend (and then his bandmate) Captain Imon Starr.

Captain Imon Starr, who’s pretty much a brother to me. He’s been so supportive of me. And when I was in the same group as him, Olmecha Supreme, we did so many adventures around, up and down New Zealand, Australia, and then on to doing other stuff for me as well with other artists, you know, in the New Zealand music industry.

But if it weren’t for him and me encountering him all those years ago, back when I was a teenager in college and him doing the local show he did back then, I don’t think any of that would ever transpire, you know, and I’m always thankful for him. Even now, you know, like I’m still thankful that he still gives me the time of day.

I can just ring him any time and ask for help. You know, if he’s busy, yeah, he’ll tell me. But he’s always willing to pick up the phone for me and help out. So he’s definitely one person that changed my life. We’re family. You know, we know each other’s lives, you know. His, I’ve seen his children grow up, they’ve seen me grow up.

Yeah. Just family.
