“I guess there’s a lot of things to be grateful for. I guess sort of a major part of my life was being introduced to health and fitness, and once upon a time I was a big lad. Now, I’m a few kilos down, so it’s been a huge shift in my lifestyle.

So I’ve got that to be grateful for, and then to create positive change within everybody around me. So, being able to share it within the community.

Big change in life and mindset, going from a sedentary sort of lifestyle to being a lot more active. The biggest change for me is I’m a lot more active in my lifestyle now. It’s helped me ten-fold in my everyday activities. Having an electrician background it made the jobs a lot easier, to get under the houses and up in the roof spaces and all that. Just a lot more energy. A lot more purpose in my life. It’s just been a massive change in my whole life and my whole career.

There were a few things, a few signs healthwise. Having high blood pressure, going to the doctors for medication, and just sort of looking at myself in the mirror, and not really being happy with the way I  looked. It was an uphill battle. It wasn’t easy. It took a lot of trial and error, a lot of failing, and then getting back up. So it definitely wasn’t easy to begin with but I think the rewards now, it’s paid for itself, and I’ve extended my life for the better.

Probably the biggest thing is to set some goals. That’s probably your number one thing you’d need to set. Without a goal, you’re going nowhere, and then get out, and get in touch with people such as personal trainers, or if you know somebody who lives a fitness life, just to get some information and maybe put you on towards the path to success.

So I’m a part-time electrician, and also a business owner and gym owner of Nefarious Fitness and Performance.

I was born at Whanganui Hospital. My mother lived in Waverly, which is about 40 minutes north of Whanganui. I went to school at Waverley Primary and I did one year at Whanganui, Waverley High School then we moved back to Whanganui, where I carried out my years at school, at City College. From there, I started a family really quickly at a young age, and that’s where my career path changed. I went from leaving school to going to a job.”
