“I was born in Fiji, and I came to New Zealand in 1966, I think, about 51 years ago. I’m a Hindu and Indian ethnic, and I am connected to my culture daily. In terms of meeting family, in terms of meeting friends, also visiting Fiji quite regularly.
I’m an engineer. Graduated from Auckland University here, and I have practiced engineering, and run an engineering type of business of consultancy and supply, specialised in lighting, lighting flood, flood lighting for stadiums, street lighting, resorts, nightclubs, ah stage lighting, that sort of thing. I’ve been doing that for 40 years now.
I value friends, family, good connection with people I get on with. It’s important because it teaches me a lot of things that we value in life. I was brought up in a fairly culturally sensitive home, in terms of what the Hindu religion teaches. So it basically teaches your day to day living, and it keeps us connected. It’s all about decency and honesty and keeping happy. Your, what we call, is a inner-soul happiness. If you are happy inside within yourself, then I guess the rest of it takes care of itself.
A recent act of kindness… if taking my dog is a act of kindness, dog for a walk, then I’ve done that.”
