“The last message I sent was probably asking two friends whether they were coming to the playgroup today, because we’ve got a fire truck coming.

So we want as many people as we can. Community playgroup is just about getting all the community mothers and fathers together, and bringing their children. It’s a cheap $2 donation, we provide morning tea, and about two hours of free play. It’s really good for all the mothers and fathers to be able to connect from all different cultures, and ages and it’s a real fun time, and, you know, if you’re a bit isolated or you need to get out of the house it’s an excellent place to meet people and have fun.

I think it’s great to be able to volunteer in the community, so that you feel a really good presence. It’s nice to be able to walk down the street and people are waving at you. You know everyone; it just makes it feel smaller and safer and by volunteering you know you’re going to meet as many people as you possibly can, and it’s a really good little environment to do that.

I think we could sort of create more of a community by having community spaces, having the community groups; they really do help to get families out of their houses and meeting people. I think you’ve got to persevere with these things, and it really makes a difference to people’s lives. It’s just getting out in the community and doing little things.”
