Angus – New Plymouth / Auckland CBD
“I called my mum today because it was her birthday, and talked to her. I guess that shows I care, which I do obviously.
I was born in a woolshed and raised on a farm for most of my childhood, and I went to New Plymouth and lived there for all my high school, and always interested in making video games. So I came to Auckland to study software engineering, and game programming. I wasn’t used to the culture difference. Definitely a lot of different people here, but it’s a lot better when I have friends here to live with and stuff, but it’s not bad. I like it.
It’s not that diverse in New Plymouth. It’s mostly just like old New Zealanders. Like, in New Plymouth you wouldn’t see any of the stuff that’s here. Like, you can go out and eat different foods, go see different things which like, I really like doing. Like, everywhere around here is a lot different, which is cool.
My parents split up when I was little but I’ve always had a close relationship with both of them, and lived with both of them kind of equally. It’s still like a good relationship but I talk to my mum most days probably. My dad; not as often, but I still talk to him. I was five? Four? I didn’t really care at the time. I didn’t really know what was going on. I didn’t pay attention. I didn’t like, have any stress from it.
I was just too young, and I kind of liked going to each different parents house a lot of the time. My mum moved around a lot so like, it was kind of cool anywhere. Just to go back to the farm with my dad every time, but yeah I’ve still got a good relationship with them both. I have three sisters as well, and I’ve got like, a really close relationship with all of them, and I talk to them all every day and I think like, it has made me a lot more caring and stuff than I would be, without any sisters or like, other people that care about me. It’s made me care about them.
(To make Auckland better) I’d probably just like homeless people (to) get houses, and help a lot of the homeless and drug situations especially on K-Road; I walk down it like every night and there’s just so many people just asleep there, and just like out of their minds on something, but yeah I think that’d be like the main one for me.”
