Eric | One Tree Hill
“I’m Eric and originally from Malaysia. But I grew up here and am living in One Tree Hill.
In all honesty, I worked in banking for about nine years or so, and I took a step back and thought about what I wanted to do with my life. So I got engaged, proposed to my missus. I bought a house and left my job to start up my own business without any future, in terms of cash-flow and basically no customers. Just taking a step basically away from my comfort zone.
I’m always an advocate of people having the ability to take a step, or risk, because everyone’s pretty comfortable with their lives, these days, and it’s good to, you know, to push yourself.
The name of my business is TR3E Limited. It’s a mortgage broker business and basically, it’s had its ups and downs for the past six months. I’ve only been doing it for six months so I’m a relatively new business. Community support and friends and family support has actually really helped me out. So I’m really thankful for that.
I was born and raised in Remuera. I came here when I was six years old and lived in Remuera for a good 20 years, and then went away to Malaysia and Singapore where I’m originally from, and did three years of my career back there. That was the start of my career, graduating out of the GFC, where no-one actually had any jobs for me. After graduating and paying about $30,000-odd of school fees, and then having to do something that a non-graduate or, I wouldn’t say uneducated, but someone that doesn’t have a tertiary degree could do, that was pretty tough on me.
But I grew up here in the community, and I’m still trying to give back to the community. Most recently I started doing some charity work, so that’s a bit about myself.”
