“Oh, prefects were announced yesterday at my school, and so I’m a prefect currently at Northcote College, and so I congratulated one of the prefects for next year by hugging them on stage, and giving them their award in front of everyone, which, we’re quite close friends, so I thought that was quite a special moment for both of us. Both of our parents were there, and I think it was just quite a nice moment.
Yeah, I think it definitely is important to make people feel special. I think sometimes it’s quite hard to feel special about yourself, without other people feeling that you, making you feel special. I think it’s, yeah it’s a very difficult thing to just suddenly feel special about yourself, so any encouragement that you can have from anyone to make you feel appreciated I think is a really awesome thing to do for someone.
I grew up in Beach Haven in Auckland. I’ve lived there for my whole life. Um, I went to Verran Primary, Birkdale Intermediate, and now I’m Northcote College. My values, I value representation of all people. That’s why I’m involved with youth representation, primarily at the moment, but I think one of my biggest values is just for everyone to be treated equally, which is why I think representation of all different groups is so important.
I would like to be someone who is able to represent a lot of people, but also to be able to live my life, with doing something that I’m passionate about. I think that is one of the most important things; to be passionate about what you do, so you wake up in the morning and you’re happy to go to work, and that you’re happy to be involved with everything you are.
I think it’s really important to be a prefect, to be able to represent everyone at your school, to be able to get youth voices heard to the teachers. At school, we are all students there, and so at some point, to be able to make sure that school is an enjoyable place for everyone, and to be able to make sure that everything is safe and fun, and that people will want to come to school. I think a lot of students don’t always want to come to school in the mornings, but it’s so much better if school is a much more encouraging and positive place, so that people do get their education that they deserve.”
