I don’t know. I really don’t know. I hope just by everyday actions that you may put in, a little bit of kindness or a little bit of thought that might make someone feel a little bit happy that day.

I can’t think of anything particularly amazing, but I run a community fridge down here in Avondale, and I know that people come in and take food, and we have a chat, and maybe that is something that makes somebody’s day feel a bit brighter and a little bit more special.

I think there’s lots of things that you don’t always realise in, you know when you’re going around your day to day life, but sometimes you see a comment on Facebook or a response to something, and you think, actually thank you, that makes my day. That made me feel validated and, yeah a good start to the day.

Totally. Totally, because I think you’re right; we are so busy with, you know, day to day of our lives, and making people feel special is being connected to your community and to your family and to your friends, and to feel special is to feel appreciated and loved. I think leading up to Christmas we get even more busy, and that can often be forgotten in the busyness of the season.

Oh, the community fridge is based on the community fridge in Griffith Gardens; take what you need, leave what you don’t. We have all sorts of people come in through all sorts of life, and we take food from local retailers that are just going to be thrown out. We accept donations, and it just brings people together. Food is a great thing to bring people together.

Well, I have just finished 20 years running a toy library in Green Bay, and I met a friend, and she runs, was co-running a project here called Feed the Streets. I said, oh I would like to help with that. I’ve had a background in doing community work for, for 20+ years, and it just, it makes me happy to be able to give and I really enjoy meeting people, and this is my, my hometown. It’s where I was brought up, so it has a special place in my heart.”
