“My home is pretty much where my family are.

I grew up on Waiheke Island for 19 years. I didn’t have a very great start, so to be speak, to education and just living environments and stuff. I got myself into trouble, but then I had some kids, and kind of just changed my perspectives.

I got twins. I got twin boys and a girl. My girl is 12, and my twin boys are four. Well they turn four on 26th of this month, seven minutes apart. I don’t know, I think once I had kids, I just saw things in a different light. Before I had kids it was more about me, kind of thing, and that no-one would suffer from my actions but myself, but then I had children, and I don’t know. It’s hard to explain. I don’t think you really can explain it. I think if you have kids it’s like you can’t even explain the feeling, like it’s a human instinct, eh? You just want to protect and be the best role model you can be for your child, and if that means not going to jail, and working hard, so be it.

I work 45 hours a week, but I also study as well. I’m trying to get my rigging ticket. I’ve already got my scaffolding advance, intermediate, beginner’s tickets. I just want to accelerate myself a bit more, but I think my family are kind of suffering in that department a bit.

Well, I haven’t done so well this far this year. I’ve been to work every day of the week, other than Sundays, but I suppose small steps. Baby steps; we’ll get there.”
