Benedict – Visiting from Germany
“I’m Benedict and I’m from Germany from a small village, so not many people – not like Auckland.
What would I say to my 11 year old self is I wouldn’t change anything. That would make a different person, and I don’t want that. I’m travelling so I’m at the end of eight months travel around New Zealand. I was just backpacking around – I miss my family and stuff, so I’m at the end of my travel. I fly home on Saturday, yeah and I’m really happy at the moment.
(Auckland’s) a big city, and I’m not used to living in a big city, but it’s all friendly people. My first two minutes in Auckland, I had a map of the streets, and I didn’t know the way, until some stranger came and asked if I need any help. So, my first impression was really friendly people in New Zealand. I feel very welcomed. There’s a lot of different people – Māori people and a lot of Asian people and Kiwis and all live together in harmony.
There was one time – I was just having some fries outside and then some drunk people came and shouted at me, just maybe because I’m German, but it was alright. So, I gave them my fries and just got home.
I just graduated from high school, from the A-Levels. In Germany it’s called Abitur, and it’s kind of a gap year between university and school. So I live a life without any consequences and stuff. My hopes are that I find a good university and that I graduate and get a good job, and have a nice family. Yeah, that’s the dream.”
